CircuLaw
Open-source tool for city councils in the Netherlands and EU to navigate legal frameworks and accelerate circular economy transitions.
CircuLaw is an open-source knowledge platform for city councils and policymakers across the Netherlands and the EU — a way to find the legal levers already sitting inside existing regulation that could accelerate a circular economy, if anyone had the time to trace them.
The problem
Law is usually treated as friction: the thing standing between an idea and its implementation. CircuLaw starts from a different premise — that regulation is also opportunity, and that most local policymakers don’t have the capacity to work out which instrument, at which level of government, unlocks which outcome.
What I built
As lead developer, I built the platform CircuLaw runs on: a Next.js application with a Sanity CMS backend, organizing regulatory instruments across five product supply chains — construction, consumer goods, biomass and food, manufacturing, and plastics — plus a dedicated section mapping EU-level directives like the Green Deal and Fit for 55 onto local decision-making.
