Flux Island was a month-long exhibition in Vuosaari, a district on Helsinki’s eastern edge — new media work by students and alumni of Aalto Media Lab, shown alongside free public workshops and the fifth edition of the ÄÄNIAALTO audiovisual festival.

The idea

The name plays double: Vuosaari itself, and flux as solder — the substance that joins things. The exhibition explored Vuosaari’s relationship to the Baltic Sea through interaction, generative process, and immersion, while the free workshops taught participants to build their own work with DIY tools, hardware, and code, feeding straight back into the show.

What I built

As developer, I built the site for the event — running February 1–22, 2020 at Vuotalo Galleria, Mosaiikkitori — carrying the programme, workshop information, and documentation for a project organized by students including Matti Niinimäki, Liisi Soroush, and Emily Wingren.
