Sheffield City Goals
Website for Sheffield City connecting citizens with city goals — sharing initiatives, progress, and inviting civic participation.
Sheffield City Goals are six stories the city wants to be able to tell about itself in 2035 — not solutions, but a shared direction, built through one of the larger deliberative listening processes a UK city has run: 28 deep listening workshops, more than 700 people, over 100 neighbourhoods.
The problem
A city goal only means something if the people who live there recognize themselves in it. Sheffield City Partnership, working with Citizen Network Research, Opus Independents, Arup, and Dark Matter Labs, needed a way to turn that scale of listening into something citizens could return to, check progress against, and keep contributing to — not a one-off consultation report.
What I built
As developer and designer, I built the public-facing site connecting citizens to the Goals — sharing the initiatives underway, surfacing progress, and keeping the door open for further civic participation, with neighbourhoods (rather than the city as an abstraction) treated as the unit where change actually happens.
